Here I am, ready to tell you more about my weekend in Verona at the Italireland Festival 2012 (http://www.irlandaonline.com/news/eventi/26243-festival-italo-irlandese-a-verona.html).
It was the second edition of this cultural event, the first one was held last year in September in Dublin.
The organizers of the event (at least one or two of them, maybe I missed someone) are two young ladies, Federica and Valeria, who put all their efforts and emotions in all the aspects of these days.
As far as my personal experience is concerned, I drove to Verona on Saturday morning with a dear friend of mine, Laura (the author of Rairish). In two hours we were there and at 3 p.m. we were ready for the first step of the our weekend. The afternoon was a little strange to me, I didn't immediately get the point of the meeting. The Irish authors were present and I was really pleased to meet Catherine Dunne, a writer I met in 2007 when she was in Pordenone for the festival pordenonelegge.it.
She recognized me immediately and we altogether went for an aperitif (Spritz, which she loves!!!!). It was a real Italirish table:

In the evening we went to what it would turn out to be an amazing reading.
Our 7 Irish authors read pieces of their works (wow guys... it was such a sound to listen to such artists!!!), a very skilled Italian actor read them in Italian and there was a terrific music band consisting of three men who played Irish music.
On that occasion Catherine read a passage of her short story, Moving on.
The book is bilingual (Italian and English) and it was published for the occasion in 1,000 copies, all with a number inside (I have number 55!!!).
The jacket of the book is a donation of the great Italian artist Palladino.
(the sandals are the hinge of the story, and I won't tell you more!!).
That night Laura and me went to our B&B (amazing, by the way, newly refurbished, neat pieces of furniture and nice people), and we couldn't sleep. Too many ideas in our brains and too many feelings in our hearts.
The following day we participated to a "private" creative writing workshop, where the 7 writers took us by the hand and led us to a place I would call Wonderland but it was (and is) all real.
They told us their experiences in the writing world and they told us to "switch off the negative button", to "believe in ourselves", "to continue writing", to "write from the heart" and to "inflame our passions"...
I mean... read the previous line... And I heard it my own ears... Yes.. they offered us a fresh sip of water after days in the desert.
I completely loved the four-hour experience and I appreciate the festival.
Writing is a part of me, a part of my form of expression. If I do not write, I feel so empty, so poor.
I want to thank Catherine Dunne, she is so sweet, so impressive, so encouraging, (of course, so skilled!!!), Lia Mills, who is even sweeter, who loves being herself and who has loads of things to teach and transmit, Celia de Frèine, who sings and does not simply read her poems, and her love for purple, June Caldwell, to whom I felt so close: so dark and creepy, so rebel, whose words clash and get on great together at the same time, Anthony Gavin, who missed (and does not regret it!!) an interview with Stephen King, who talks so much (and there is no olive that will stop him from doing so) and mixes English and Spanish and is always so kind, Naimh MacAlister, who writes poems, and whose short story about mother and daughter made me shiver, Martin Malone, who is so shy, nevertheless so powerful in his peculiar way of writing and reading his own lines. Thank you everyone of you.
I want to thank Laura, what we shared is awesome, let's not forget it.

Eccomi qui, prontissima per parlarvi del mio weekend a Verona per il Festival Italireland 2012.

Questa era la seconda edizione dell'evento culturale, la prima si è tenuta lo scorso settembre a Dublino.
Gli organizzatori dell'evento (almeno due di loro, forse me ne sono persa qualcuno) sono due giovani donne, Federica e Valeria, che hanno messo tutte le loro forze ed emozioni in tutti gli aspetti di questi giorni.
Per quanto mi riguarda, sabato ho preso la 500 e ho guidato fino a Verona con una cara amica, Laura (l'autrice di Rairish). In un paio d'ore eravamo a Verona e alle 3 già eravamo pronte per il primo step del nostro weekend.
Il pomeriggio mi è risultato un tantino strano, non ho immediatamente focalizzato il punto del meeting. Gli autori irlandesi erano li presenti, e sono stata felicissima nell'incontrare di nuovo Catherine Dunne, scrittrice pluripremiata che ho incontrato per la prima volta nel 2007 a Pordenone, in occasione della festa del libro con gli autori, Pordenonelegge.it.
Lo spritz di ricongiungimento era d'obbligo!!! E il tavolo era davvero italirish:

La sera ci siamo rebate a quell che si sarebbe rivelato un reading strabiliante.
I nostri 7 autori irlandesi ci hanno deliziato della lettura di brani dei loro libri (wow, ragazzi... che sound ascoltare quelle voci che leggevano!!!), un attore italiano leggeva le traduzioni e negli intermezzi un gruppetto di tre musicisti suonava musiche irlandesi (bravissimi davvero!).
In quell'occasione Catherine ha letto un passaggio della sua opera Moving on.
Il libro è bilingue (italiano e inglese) ed è stato pubblicato per l'occasione, in 1.000 copie, tutte numerate (io ho la numero 55!!!).
La copertina del libro è una donazione del grande artista italiano Palladino. (i sandali sono parte cruciale della storia!!).
Quella sera Laura ed io non riuscivamo a prendere sonno... nel nostro B&B (stupendo, tra l'altro, arredato a nuovo e i padroni di casa persone davvero simpatiche). Troppe idee nelle nostre teste e troppe emozioni nel cuore.
Domenica abbiamo invece partecipato ad un evento "privato": un workshop di scrittura creativa, in cui i 7 scrittori ci hanno preso per mano e condotti in un posto che oserei chiamare il Paese delle Meraviglie, solamente che era (ed è) tutto vero!
Ci hanno parlato delle loro esperienze di scrittura, di come hanno cominciato, di come vanno avanti, ci hanno esortato a "spegnere il pulsante della negatività", a "continuare a scrivere", a "credere in noi stessi", a "scrivere dal cuore" e a lasciarci "infiammare dalle nostre passioni"... intendo.. avete letto bene???? Esatto... ci hanno offerto un sorso di acqua cristallina dopo giorni nel deserto...
Inutile dire che ho adorato quest'esperienza di 4 ore e ho apprezzato molto il festival.
Voglio infine ringraziare Catherine Dunne, così dolce, così impressionante, così incoraggiante (e ovviamente talmente dotata!!!), Lia Mills, che è ancora più dolce e che ama essere se stessa, che ha così tanto da insegnare e trasmettere, Celia de Frèine, che canta invece di semplicemente leggere le sue poesie (scritte in Irish!!!), e che adora il viola, June Caldwell, alla quale mi sento molto vicina: così dark, così oscura, così ribelle, le parole della quale stridono tra loro ma vanno così d'accordo allo stesso tempo,
Anthony Gavin, che ha person (volontariamente e non lo rimpiange!!!) un'intervista a Stephen King, che parla molto (e non c'è oliva che possa fermarlo) e che mescola inglese e spagnolo e che è sempre così gentile, Naimh MacAlister, poetessa, e che mentre leggeva il suo brano della storia di quella madre e quella figlia, mi ha messo i brividi, Martin Malone, che è riservato, ma allo stesso tempo ugualmente forte ed incisivo mentre scrive e legge le sue righe. grazie a tutti quanti.
Voglio quindi ringraziare Laura, quello che abbiamo vissuto è incredibile, non lo dimentichiamo.
